Perhaps it’s Belinda’s own gifts as a vocalist, pianist and performer that help her craft songs that others want to record. She’s frequently featured at popular venues such as the world-famous Bluebird Cafe and has even been spotlighted on NPR’s Mountain Stage radio show—sharing her original songs and witty perspectives with audiences of all types and sizes.

For Belinda, the sharing doesn’t stop there. A natural mentor, she brings her unique perspectives on the art of songwriting and creativity to up-and-coming writers each year as staff instructor for both the Tennessee and Appalachian Young Writers Workshops. Through Belinda Smith Creative, a business she launched in 2011, she offers guidance to developing songwriters with a special focus on the creative process—drawing on her 16+ years of experience and success in the music industry to teach others about the craft.

Since coming to Nashville in 1997 from her home state of West Virginia, Belinda has built a career rooted in her family’s love of gospel music and all she learned at alma mater West Virginia Wesleyan College. And with every hit song, accolade and opportunity to inspire, she transcends—living out her dream of being songwriter and performer and helping others have the courage to do the same.
